The reason February has only 28 days is due to a simple mathematical fact: the sum of any even amount (12 months) of odd numbers will always equal an even number.
This was something the Roman emperor Numa Pompilius wanted to avoid.

- Avoiding the mathematical fact that the sum of any even amount (12 months) of odd numbers will always equal an even number.
- February was chosen as the month to host Roman rituals honoring the dead.
